THE 5th ANNUAL MAHMOUDI SCHOLARSHIP FOR JUSTICE

THE 5th ANNUAL MAHMOUDI SCHOLARSHIP FOR JUSTICE

The Mahmoudi Scholarship warmly invites African and Asian youth to apply for the 2025-2026 Scholarship.

Students engaged in advancing justice as the means to building a global community are encouraged to apply for the scholarship. The annual scholarship celebrates 15 to 18-year-olds who demonstrate academic excellence coupled with an exceptional commitment to service through increasing access to justice.

Applicants must be involved in either research activities or community service projects that apply principles of justice to increase racial, economic or gender equality; and who are able to share their findings. This year’s call focuses on the theme of just relationships as the foundation for flourishing communities’.

The scholarship offers financial support towards tuition and accommodation fees at secondary schools in Asia or Africa. Interested candidates must submit an application (click here to download it) outlining their research or project findings in detail (1,500 words).

Kindly note all applications and supporting documents must be submitted by 27 December. Following review by the independent panel, the results are publicly announced on World Education Day, 24 January. Questions and communications regarding the application process are welcomed by return email at: MahmoudiScholarship@gmail.com

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Mahmoudi Scholarship for Justice was co-founded in 2019 in the UK. The scholarship encourages education among youth in memory of one of the most impactful and multi-talented couples in the contemporary Bahá’í community of Iran, Zhinus and Hushang Mahmoudi.

Following the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the formalisation of persecution of the Bahá’ís as part of state policies, Hushang was subjected to enforced disappearance on 21 August 1980, and Zhinus was executed on 27 December 1981.

In addition to being a united couple with a warm and welcoming home, the Mahmoudis promoted education for their community’s youth and children. From among this population, the scholarship was born as a token of appreciation.
